MEET SANDRA

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Sandra Wallace C.E.O of  StrandsnInches Hair. I am a Christian, a Wife and a Mother. I migrated from Ghana, West Africa.

Talk to us about StrandsnInches and what you offer?

Bobina Lace Front

StrandsnInches is an Australian owned and operated hair company aimed at helping women of colour build a level of confidence with hair extensions and wigs. I combined my life experiences as an immigrant, registered Nurse, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) worker, Mother and a Wife to create Inches, a brand that works for the modern woman. We provide machine made wigs (all made by me), custom colour (my favourite) with inspiration from our valued customers. We also provide medical wigs for our customers battling alopecia

What inspired you to Launch StrandsnInches?

As an immigrant in Australia, I found it extremely difficult getting quality hair that could last for a good number of years. This is a common problem immigrants in Australia encounter especially women of colour. I found the need to close that gap hence  Inches was born.

What are some of your best sellers?

Cara, Sassy, Bobina and Fari Lace Fronts.

Sassy Lace Front

As successful woman of colour what advice would you give to other women wanting to start their own business?

“A dream does not mean anything without any action.” I would advise my fellow women of colour to start with what they have. People or let me say potential customers want to see you grow. Please do not let your fear of imperfection hold you back. When I started it was hilarious, I virtually knew nothing about creating content, my lightening was so poor and everything. I am still learning every day and when I read comments like “I remember when you first started”, I know those are my real customers.

You are a registered nurse and currently work in community service, what made you branch out?

I had to change careers for few reasons, In the process of registering here in Australia I found out that I was pregnant with my gorgeous twin boys. My husband is a consultant pharmacist so we knew that it would not be in the best interest of our twin boys if I also went back into nursing. I had to find a profession that was flexible and would allow time for the family (family comes first) I am still registered to practice nursing overseas.

What do you enjoy most about your role in community service?

I work in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre and I am humbled and blessed to get people to trust me and share their stories and journey with me. Honestly life can really throw lemons but seeing them try to make the yummiest lemonade out of life is so rewarding.

What are some of your hobbies outside of your business and profession?

I love watching movies and also spending quality time with family and friends.

What does beauty mean to you?

Beauty to me means confidence and that’s what my brand stands for.

Name three of your favorite hair care products?

Scalp care under your wigs and extensions is very important, always use oils to prevent dryness. Use minimal shampoo on natural hair, extensions or wigs and deep condition to restore moisture. My favourite conditioner brand is OGX. Always use sulphate free products on your natural hair, extensions and wigs to prevent stripping your hair of moisture which causes dryness and frizz.

What’s next for you?

Moving forward, I will be launching my Hair care product line!
