Beauty Empowered: The Mango Twins

We are excited to bring you Beauty Empowered. Our blog series where you will get to meet inspirational women paving paths to greatness one story at a time. Our first story comes from identical twins Juliana and Juliet Mango. The fierce sisters are Business Women, Entrepreneurs, Event Organisers and Co-founders of Mango Bites Consulting Design.

MEET THE DYNAMIC DUO

Who are the Mango Twins?

We are Juliana and Juliet from Zimbabwe, ambitious businesswomen, entrepreneurs, event organizers and promoters. We’re also the co-founders of  Mango Bites Consulting and recent Zimbabwe Achievers Australia (ZAA) Young Achievers of the Year 2019. We also like to call ourselves ‘twinfluencers”.

What do you love most about being a twin?

Having someone who is always supportive of your vision, someone who has your back no matter what and is invested in your well-being. And of course, there’s the fun only twins can have like switching places or answering each other’s phones.

How do you motivate each other?

We try and use trials and tribulations as inspiration to stay optimistic because they’re part of a bigger story. Being twins, you have a life coach by your side always. Whenever one of us feels like giving up the other is right there to say, “No, we can do this” or “What can I do to help you reach where you want to be?” When you have that shared connection, it becomes your job to keep each other motivated.

Tell us a about your brand and the services you offer?

Being twins you might have guessed that a lot of our life revolves around multiples. And in the case of our brand we actually have two, but they work jointly as one. Our  Mango Twins brand is centered around being influencers, women empowerment and organizing events. The services we offer include event hosting, promotions, brand ambassadors. We would characterize our brand as ambitious, fearless, very innovative and strategic.

Our Mango Bites Consulting brand is our small business. It’s a digital media and design firm that we started in 2015 when we were 22. We offer services for graphic/digital design, marketing, social media, branding, content creation including photo editing, promo videos and event campaigns. We love working with small businesses and helping them grow. We also love contracting freelancers to work with us sometimes. Its always great to collaborate with other creatives.

As successful women of colour what advice would you give to other women wanting to start their own business?

Our advice would be to be fearless and don’t let fear interfere. Do some research in the industry that you would like your business to run and look at other businesses to see what makes yours different. Have a brand story, your why and how you started. It will be great to kickstart your marketing strategy but it will also remind you during times where you question everything why you started this. After you have your business name get it out there. Invest in marketing and branding and network with others. If you don’t know something, ask. Don’t be afraid to ask someone you look up to or someone who knows more than you to be your mentor.

Also don’t be afraid or embarrassed to ask for funding for your business. Know that you are worth it, and it’s OK to ask for money. This is something that has helped us immensely.

What inspires you?

Being creative, it really helps with inspiration and it helps us grow as human beings. We are showing that young women of color can exist in creative industries that are male or white dominated and still be successful. We’re pretty much creating our own path and I think that is very important because we’re showing young people how you can use your passion and creativity to make a career. We always get other young women coming up to us or messaging our page telling us how inspired they are from our story and their career ideas. Honestly that is what inspires us the most!

What are some of your hobbies outside of your business?

We are big health and fitness lovers. We love working out, cooking healthy dishes and doing activities that take us out of the office. We both also enjoy doing some writing and drawing freestyle rather than for a concept or business idea, although it always turns out that way!

What does beauty mean to you?

Beauty to us is confidence and being you. Embracing who you truly are and loving yourself. By accepting yourself and being positive about who you are, your body image and respecting yourself you become unstoppable, confident and beautiful. You become a magnetic force and define how others treat and love you for who you genuinely are. We live life being authentic and true to ourselves.

Unapologetically loving ourselves and being confident in the skin we’re in. This has allowed us to really nourish our inner beauty and grow into caring, loving women. We can face the world boldly. Our biggest goal is to show young women how to be true to themselves, how to love themselves, and how to feel truly positive about yourself. When you feel that, you can do and create anything

Name three beauty products you can’t live without?

Skincare is so important to us. Our face wash products are something we use on a daily basis to maintain good skin for a beautiful natural look when we are not wearing makeup. Powder and lip moisturizer or lipstick are our other essentials. We’re blessed with having clear, smooth skin so adding powder is our go-to shortcut for looking polished when we don’t put foundation on. And with lipstick or moisturizer it’s a great to finish. People always tell us ‘Oh my gosh, your makeup looks so cute,’ and we’re just like 'We only have on [those two things]!'” So yeah those are our 3 survival beauty products, we can’t live without them!

What’s next for you?

We’re most excited about growing and scaling  Mango Bites, growing as designers and event organizers, and sharing our story. Despite the COVID-19 epidemic hitting the world, for us we have actually found it to be a blessing. We’re working on things that normally we were too busy to do due to our workload. We are excited to announce that we finally launched ThinkBig2020, an initiative to support local businesses through the tough times. We also started online consultations to offer creative, unique solutions and also looking to expand other areas of our business including IT.

We are super excited to actually keep going into 2020 with a beautiful mindset. We’re creating a new lane and a new path. In 2020, people will finally wrap their heads around everything that we are up to. There is so much to come!
